Safety

360 Degrees of Protection

A longstanding and steadfast commitment to safety has given Subaru vehicles an impenetrable reputation for superior protection. This powerful commitment is reflected in vehicles with four key attributes. From the start, holistic design gives drivers confidence in the form and function of the vehicles themselves. The vehicles are then engineered to deliver the highest levels of control and stability in all possible conditions. They are also infused with the latest technology to help drivers avoid accidents before they happen. And the vehicles feature ultra-strong construction and advanced safety systems that help minimize the chance of injury in the event of an accident. This all-encompassing approach to safety gives Subaru drivers the freedom to pursue adventure in their lives—going where they want, when they want, even in the face of unexpected obstacles or surprises from Mother Nature.

◊EyeSight® is a driver assist system, which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner's Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations. Please remember to turn off EyeSight when going through a car wash.

Primary Safety

Confidence From the Word “Go”

At Subaru, our core philosophy is to create Confidence in Motion — and the end goal of this philosophy is to engineer vehicles that function at the highest possible level. This is why every Subaru vehicle features proper seating positions, tremendous visibility, intuitive user interfaces, logical controls and meticulous ergonomics overall. Anything that could potentially distract the driver or prevent the driver from being in full control of the vehicle is eliminated, leaving behind only a stress-free driving experience.

Active Safety

All-Around Performance

A vehicle that performs at a higher level dynamically is, by definition, also a higher-performing vehicle when it comes to safety. The all-new Subaru vehicles introduced from 2017 onwards utilize the ultra-strong Subaru Global Platform, which will continue rolling out onto future models. All vehicles in the current fleet feature a world-class AWD system and boast class-leading active safety systems, such as Active Torque Vectoring, Brake Assist, Brake Override, Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC). These attributes give Subaru vehicles superior handling, braking and evasive capabilities—and give the Subaru driver higher degrees of control in less than ideal circumstances.

Preventative Safety

Advanced Technology for a Safer Future

Long at the forefront of safety, Subaru has never rested on its laurels and continues to advance technology to best protect occupants. This relentless approach has led to the introduction of such innovations as the EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection and Reverse Automatic Braking, systems that help drivers avoid accidents in the first place. In the belief that accident avoidance is the best way to preserve safety, Subaru continues to drive towards a future wherein complete peace of mind is engineered into every vehicle.

Passive Safety

Extra Layers of Protection

In the event that an accident proves unavoidable, every Subaru vehicle features a wide range of passive safety systems designed to deliver class-leading levels of protection. Each vehicle boasts exceptionally rigid construction and incorporates the latest in passive safety systems, including a ring-shaped reinforcement safety cell, a full complement of airbags, collapsible pedals and front bumpers designed to minimize injury to pedestrians. Together, these advances help better protect occupants and reduce the effect of collision damage and, in turn, generate much greater peace of mind.
