Another safety first from Subaru
First introduced on the 2019 Subaru Forester, the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System utilizes a camera angled at the driver’s face and facial recognition software to monitor fatigue or lack of attention. Working in harmony with Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, this state-of-the-art system was developed to address the persistent issue of traffic accidents caused by distraction or fatigue. In 2019, DriverFocus was named the Best Safety Innovation by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.
Greater focus, increased safety
Vehicles equipped with DriverFocus feature a dedicated camera mounted in the visor of the Multi-Function Display. This camera focuses on the driver’s face, scanning for eye and head movements that indicate the driver may be distracted or falling asleep. If this is happening, the system sends visual and auditory alerts to bring driver attention back to the task at hand, like an automated co-driver along for the ride.
Convenience built in for the whole family
The DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System can register and recognize up to five different drivers. When a driver enters the vehicle, the camera scans his or her face, and adjusts vehicle settings according to that individual’s height, dimensions and preferences. As a personalized welcome message appears on the Multi-Function Display, the seat position, side mirror position and climate control settings automatically adjust to suit the driver.
